Do you use bargain sites like Groupon etc

Recently I bought some vouchers for a smart hotel in London for a meal in their restaurant from a site called Wowcher. I bought enough to take my son and daughter plus partners with my husband so six in total. I phoned and booked for December 9th as we we going to spend the week end in London. I got a phone call a day ago to say they were no longer honouring these vouchers and that I should contact Wowcher to get a refund. Great, I thought now I have the hassle of sorting that out and also have to find another venue and also have to pay for that before getting my money refunded.
I was really fed up and felt that having already taken my booking they should honour that. I am now sorting this with Wowcher but it is taking time and a lot of fuss.
The weekend before I had booked a night away with my husband with an afternoon tea and breakfast in Shrewsbury for a little escape away also through Wowcher. That hotel informed me that they were closed that week end but at least they sent me a voucher that could be used any time in the next twelve months so that was better customer service than the hotel in London.
I have used both Groupon and Wowcher loads of times before and this is the first problem I have had with either site when using their vouchers.
Has anyone else used these sites and had good experiences or bad?
Update: Wowcher have refunded my money back to my credit card so all good !now

@catsholiday I remember one small cake-making business gave out vouchers for a box of cakes thinking they would get a bit of extra publicity. They were inundated with orders, had to take on extra staff and made a big loss from the deal, I'm not sure whether they went bust. I suppose you could say that was their own fault but they just didn't dream they would get such a huge response!

@Fleura Yes they have to be careful. I believe they can limit the number of vouchers thy want to allow which seems like a better idea. I do vaguely remember the fuss about that one

We don't have them here. I hope it will be available here in my country, they are of much help.

I use Groupon pretty frequently, and have never had any issues with them or their services.

They do often have products too at reduced prices. I have bought a few of those too. A unicorn duvet cover for my granddaughter was a recent purchase

We've used groupon about 5 times in 2 or 3 years.

Yes we were fed up it was a six course meal each for £25 and it should have been around £70 each

That is a real shame that your coupons aren't going to be honoured. Even if you get your money or whatever it is still an inconvenience.

@acrogodess I found that I have never lost money but sometimes just got a credit from the company which is fine but in this case I want a refund as it was around £150 so quite a lot to have as a credit
