Ten Favorite Pop Songs: The Wayward Wind (#7)

Being middle aged, my definition of "pop" is completely different from the younger generation's definition. These are oldies but goodies, classics of the bygone era. Here's the next song on the countdown of my favorite pop standards. #7: The Wayward Wind - Gogi Grant Picky Wedia says this is a "western" song. Okay, if they say so. Actually, with Tex Ritter warbling it, it is indeed has that western feel to it. But the first version I ever heard was by two-hit wonder Gogi Grant, and her version is dynamic pop. Grant only had two hits: "Suddenly There's a Valley" and this one. "The Wayward Wind" hit #1 on the Billboard charts. Despite the heavy production (ah, that French horn), Grant's magnificent voice was on display in the classic song. Although I do love Tex Ritter (there's one of his songs on my 100 favorites list), I'll take her version of this terrific tune any day of the week.
