not feeling it

December 4, 2017 2:23am CST
Perhaps it's just me. Maybe I've reached the Age of Bah! Humbug! The Christmas Vibe hasn't caught me yet. I have no Christmas Mojo. Oompf has popped out to play and he's left his Christmas jumper tucked up in the drawer. The lights in town were turned on at the weekend. Beautiful sparkly lights heralding in the Christmas joy. We were later than most towns, but we are brighter and prettier. I haven't seen them this year yet, but will feast my eyes upon them this evening. The Facebook seems full of folk who have already put their trees and decorations up. Mine are still in the garage, making cosy homes for gigantic spiders. There is a disco at the bus stop we're just stopping at; the lights are flickering. I spent three hours buying presents online yesterday. I have some lovely cards waiting patiently to be written. The cupboard is slowly being stocked up with Christmas yummy-ness. Plans have been negotiated with family. Soon they will be finalised. In the meantime, Life plods on.

I am not at all in the Christmas mood. From several years we did very little, last year we decided not to exchange gifts to make things more easy. This year, with my Mom in the hospital, I am not even in the mood to celebrate.

Oh Anna - its hard when people are ill - and everyone else seems to be enjoying themselves - but lots of people have their own secret miseries and problems to cope with. All the best.

We're normally not in the Christmas mood because we have so much to do in the run up. However this year, as of yesterday, we have completed the shopping for presents, put up the (admittedly minimalist) decorations and can now get down to the serious business of indulging in the festivities.

@Poppylicious I don't think I'd be feeling the Christmas spirit if I were faced with the prospect of a further two weeks amongst the youth of the UK!!

I think that because I still have over two weeks till term finishes, Christmas seems like light years away.

Well, it's probably not the best environment to be in for Christmas joy!

I'm not really feeling it either. I am not inclined to put up the decorations yet. The lights went on in our town the other day and they are pretty but not outstanding. I did wrap up all of my parents' gifts for the rest of the family as they are too old to manage that and I delivered them but that's about it.

You can join my Not Feeling It Yet Club. But as soon as you start feeling it the membership must come to an end.

Well you've already been doing things for your parents - I'm sure they appreciate that. I always try and get the decorations done by 1 Dec and all the cards done in November plus most of the packing - then for a relaxing December when everyone else is panicking!

Not everyone feels in the festive mood - but sometimes just going through the motions and writing cards, wrapping and decorating does help - anyhow it'll be gone in 3 weeks whether we are full of festiveness or not.

@Poppylicious Oh definitely bother - three weeks is plenty fo time to do all you want or need to. What I mean is things are often anticipated for a long time but are then soon over with.

@poppylicious Maybe you need to buy a catamaran and go sailing in the South Seas.
