While plagiarism is prohibited here, stealing a good idea is welcomed...especially when it comes to music countdowns! @teamfreak16 just finished a "man" songs, which I first did...after stealing the "boy" songs idea from him! Scott's doing a countdown of real people mentioned in the title of songs, so I'm jumping on that bandwagon. I have a supplemental countdown with a twist on that thought, but that'll be later. I can tell you right now there's already a match. And, for my first song, we just might match later in his countdown! Ya never know. Here's my first entry. #10: Robert De Niro's Waiting... - Bananarama Date rape, huh? That's what Bananarama member Siobhan Fahey said this song is about. Wow. I just thought it was about movie-obsessed girls who don't think about dating because the film's better than real life. That goes to show you a change in the generations. Of course, when this song came out, I'd watch Godfather Part II every time it came on HBO or Showtime, along with King of Comedy (one of De Niro's great, underrated films, if you ask me) and Taxi Driver (which I really "don't get," but maybe it's the excessive violence [I do like the Kristofferson reference in the film, though ]). But, if you look at the lyrics ("boys living next door are never what they seem"), you can see that the concept of date rape is there and easy to understand. I suppose I was the only one who saw it for something else. As a single, it bombed in the US, only reaching #95 on the hot 100. People who think of Bananarama think of their cover of "Venus," or "Cruel Summer," but have probably never heard this song. I'm not going to make you an offer you can't refuse if you don't listen to this. Robert De Niro's Waiting... Oh I am very familiar with Robert DeNiro's Waiting. KROQ played it plenty. I love Bananarama who were a KROQ staple in the 80s. You know, He was really saying something.....
