Real people. Not the 70's TV show, but actual real people, is the theme of this particular music series, which is songs with real people in the title (you know what's making this fun? @FourWalls is doing the same countdown right now!) I am at #3: "Let it Flow (for Dr. J)" by the late saxophonist Grover Washington Jr. Best known for his 1980 smash hit, "Just the Two of Us," Grover Washington Jr was a bona fied sax master and jazz legend. From Washington's 1980 album, Winelight, "Let it Flow (for Dr. J)" (an instrumental honoring Philadelphia 76'ers legend Julius Erving) might not have been released as a single, but, as one of his most popular songs, was a live staple of Washington's for years. I've linked to an awesome live performance made memorable by a fat, nasty bass solo. Memorable, that is, until Grover launches into his own solo. Enjoy! (R.I.P., Grover. Thank you for the groovy music.) (Info verified by Wikipedia)
From an old broadcast in the 80's. Florida jazz fest? Awesome bass solo at 3:07 and sick Grover solo. Grover died in 1999 and was a big player in the jazz fe...

Maybe the only song ever about a basketball player (Cheech & Chong's Basketball Jones doesn't count).

Don't forget the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Magic Johnson," although that was more about the Showtime Lakers than Magic himself.

That's a cool bass solo. And, frankly, although I know tastes are subjective, I don't want to meet the 33 people who thumbs-downed that video.

It's awesome. Grover's solo is the bomb, though. God, he was great.

You might have, if you've listened to Winelight. It's the best song on the album.

I always think of this as smooth jazz. I don't really know what that is, but it seems to fit. He can really play that sax.

Yeah, that makes sense. He is considered a smooth jazz pioneer.
