Hi all. It's been a while since I've posted. AGAIN. Seems like when I have something to say, I just don't feel like posting. Also, I've been very into politics. Maybe I'll post about that later. The reason I am posting now is that I am sitting on the bed with a broken leg, going nowhere, bored of Words with Friends, the local newspaper, Poppit, etc., so I might as well tell you all about it. So Monday night I went downstairs to fix myself a quick sandwich. Tony and I were planning to go to the gym. We had finally gotten off our rears and were working out again. About 2/3 of the way downstairs, somehow I caught my foot, and I went down. I remember the top of my foot on the stair, twisting, falling and catching myself. I lowered myself to the ground (I didn't fall all the way) and started screaming. Cary came running and I told him to go get Tony and an ice pack, in that order. I remember them putting ice on my ankle and then I didn't know where I was. Apparently I had passed out for a couple of minutes from the pain. This all resulted in my getting a "free" ride to the hospital where they took x-rays and told me the fibula was cracked and sent me home with crutches and a boot. Some fun. The next day I looked up the orthopedic surgeon that the hospital recommended, and he was out of network. So I called my doctor for a referral to one of theirs. He was in network, yay, and so I made an appointment. Wednesday morning, more xrays. So much fun when he twisted my ankle sideways to get one of the ankle and see if it was stable. Which, it wasn't. Something about a ligament being stretched out and the bones being too far apart. So my two exciting choices were 1) a cast, with a slight chance that the bones wouldn't align, in which case it would be harder to fix or 2) surgery, a metal plate, a risk of infection, but a very good chance that the bones would be back in alignment. I chose the surgery, which was 2 days ago. It went quite well, but when I got home, well try going up stairs with a splint on your leg. I ended up scooting up the stairs on my butt, and here I will stay for 2 weeks until the appointment when they take the splint off, take the staples out and put me in a boot. No zip lining for my birthday.

That's just rotten. I'm sorry you are not having any fun at all. Years ago my husband slipped on ice and landed in the hospital, his ankle broken in two places. He had a terrible time, too. Take care.

Yeah, not fun, but as long as I keep it elevated it doesn't hurt much.

@dawnald Well, that's good. Hubby landed in the hospital for a night cause they were worried about blood circulating to his feet.

@pgntwo I know the hospital where I had the surgery will. Probably the ER too. But then there's the ambulance, the anesthesiologist, the orthopedist....

I am so sorry, Dawn! I had missed you, but surely this is not a good way to return. I didn´t know that you were into politics. I´d love you to forget your leg for a second and tell us all about it. I would also love to hear about your children. Probably they are not even children anymore.

Ouch. I hope it heals quickly. Bumming up or down the stairs can be an adventure. Somehow it's a lot more fun when you are 5 years old.

A few years ago I twisted my ankle really bad and they thought it was broken. After the swelling went down they saw it was just sprained.

Hi, Dawn! Just popping by to see if anyone from the old days is still active here. I see you on fb, but somehow I missed hearing about your injury. I'm sure things must be healed up by now and you are out and about. I broke a bone in my hand once tripping on a sidewalk in broad daylight. Just a cast. No surgery. Not a great story, I know. Good to see you here :)

Hi, no I am not up and about. Leg is still healing. Old people heal slower, I guess.

@dawnald Oh, no! Well, I hope it isn't too much longer. It was frustrating with an arm cast, I can not imagine what a broken leg must be like. Take care and heal soon!
