It's the Season of Spending, so Check your Receipts!

United States
December 15, 2017 2:01am CST
I went to the mall and the cashier charged an outfit I purchased twice (baby outfit - bought for a gift). Then, I went to the grocery and was charged an extra gallon of water, I purchased 10 gallons but was charged for 11. They were all minor charges, but it's the time where the malls/stores/cashiers are busy or overwhelmed. I'd recommend double checking your receipt before leaving the store. Have you been overcharged recently? I hope not!

I always check also, but at the mall - I had a lot of items and didn’t bother to double check. My mom was with me and thankfully she counted the quantity of the items and it didn’t match the receipt. I immediately got a refund.

@LadyDuck Yes, the cashier did blamed the "Scanner". I think she should just apologize and return, and not blame something else. I understand they're under stress and long lines. But glad I didn't walk out overpaying and if I came back - there wouldn't be any proof that I was overcharged.

No but i bought bread and cheese for 11€ yesterday. I get that from everywhere else for half that price. I was in a hurry to get to work on time and that was my breakfast. So i paid for it but I will never come back to that expensive shop again.

Was it the first time you went to that shop? I hope the food was delicious at least though!

@Madshadi Oh I see. Glad at least the food was delicious. I'd be upset if the food was expensive and not tasty!

Yep I had this happen to me recently a well. It was a $3.99 charge and I live 45 minutes from the store so going and asking them to refund it is pointless.

Oh no, that'll be a far drive. But won't hurt next time to go in and let them know , they might deduct it on your purchase then.

I shop online too but sometimes online could make adjustments as well (or have an error).

Restaurants could be sneaky at times. I always check my receipts but more closely now that it's been twice in a day at different locations!

If I have been overcharged, I haven't noticed. Guess I should start checking the receipt.

Since I found sometimes there is something wrong and the supermarket will charge me wrong price. It is different than the tags, and strangely the price is only higher but never lower. Therefore, now I try to check how much it charges me when I am in the cashier.

Yes, check your quantity and prices before leaving. I was overcharged twice in one day at different locations (one at the mall/ one at the grocery store)!

I don't think it's the store per se, but more so the employees who aren't paying attention or being stressed due to the longer lines. The prices weren't overpriced, but I was double charged.

I don't think the cashier clerks really care, they just scan. Since we're the ones paying, definitely important to check.

Oh yes, I was buying some salmon nigiris (sushi)... They were $2.50 each and I asked for 5 of them. When I got home I noticed they charged me $15 for it. I got other stuff there besides the sushi so I didn't really notice it right away when I was paying. My husband said it's only $2.50 but I was still upset - either gave me 6 pieces or charged me $12.50 for the 5 I asked for and was given...

Small hidden charges and we don’t notice! Same with me. Shopping I bought 14 items so the extra outfit I didn’t even notice. My mom asked me did I count the quantity purchased, I said no so she did off to the side and immediately said not matched. The cashier verified the receipt and blamed it on the scanner Then the water, I paid... but then thought to myself that doesn’t make sense, and checked the quantity sure enough 11, not the 10 I told her. Hmph !

I rarely check my receipts so maybe I need to start. Only time I really do check them is if I think I've been overcharged but normally I don't even pay that much attention.
