Man's best friend, that's the most appropriate description for our canine pets, the dogs, because of their loyalty and unconditional love to their 'masters'. However, in some parts of the world, Philippines included, dog meat trading is posting a very big challenge to all the animal welfare advocates . Dog meats are traded because of the growing demand in restaurants offering exotic dishes, some are used for religious purposes. Dog meats are believe to give physical strength and well being , but it is exactly the opposite for you can acquire dreadful diseases from eating the meat.
I cried every time one of our dogs died. It gives me goosebumps whenever I imagine a a dog being slaughtered for consumption...

Even if I was dying, I wouldn't touch it.

It is a shame that such scene happened here in my country. :-( Organizations like Animal Kingdom Foundation , PAWS are vigilant in their campaign and fight against dog meat trading and animal cruelty, respectively, here in the Philippines. Somehow, their efforts have created much awareness and forced government to do something about this, prompted to pass a more stronger bill (bigger penalty and longer jail time for the criminals) . These organizations, however, are dependent on their supporters, locally and internationally.Without funds, they can't pursue cases against the violators and criminals...

Pig,cows, sheep, deer, etc are not deemed as man's best friend. Dogs are. Some pet lovers\dog lovers even consider dogs better than human beings to love because of their loyalty. To the extent of treating their dogs equal of human beings. How can you slaughter something that has been your loyal companion and protector all its life? There are so many animals we have domesticated but none come closer to the dogs when it comes to being our protector and loyal companion. Pigs, cows, deers, not even cats are good enough substitute. :-) Thank you , Paigea, for sharing your thoughts.

I live in the United States. I do not think I can find any place that sells dog meat. If there was; I would not buy it.

Hello, Keith. I can not imagine Americans doing this savage act, too. Even if maybe you get hungry, you will find something else to eat but dog meat. In some asian countries they slaughter dogs as offering to their gods, others in their colossal belief that dog meat has a medicinal benefit to its consumer, even as an aphrodisiac. Sad but it is still very much happening in most third world countries. .

Hello, April. :-) Kamusta? . I have never tasted a dog meat and never will. In our country, we are so used of seeing stray dogs, or dogs being kicked or stoned or even hit with no particular reason. Trip lang , they said. Sometimes, in order to get more views for their social media posts.I am glad that at least these people get jail time now or pay a penalty amounting to 30,000 to 100,000.
