Have any of you served on Jury Duty?

I have never been on Jury Duty. I cannot say what it was like to decide the fate of someone in a courtroom to decide if he are guilty or not. If you did serve have you ever kept in touch with those you served with or saw them again?

We don't have jury trials in the Philippines. A single judge decides on the merits of the case in a bench trial.

I wonder if that is fair or not.

@Hannihar _It isn't fair to poor people who are defended by overworked and underpaid lawyers from the PAO (Public Attorney's office) The rich and affluent on the other hand can easily bribe the judge for a favorable ruling on their cases.

@josie_ josefina, you are right because they have the money and the power to bribe a judge. That is too bad if the person is guilty and they go free.

The only time I've been on a jury it wasn't real... it was for a movie. I can't remember which one.

@Hannihar It was interesting. It wasn't a criminal trial, but one involving insurance.

I have done jury duty but it was only for a few hours. I've never seen any of those involved since.

@Hannihar I didn't like it particularly. I suppose I wasn't really comfortable deciding someone else's fate although it was a fairly simple case.

@JudyEv Judy, I do not blame you. I would not be one of the people to decide someone's fate either.

@Hannihar I made it to the final 24 people and the lawyers chose the 12 jurors out of the 24. I was not one of the jurors they chose.

@DianneN Why 10 months Dianne? After the 10 months do you have to go serve?

I received a summons one time, but I had four small children, and there was no way I was going to deal with going to the city, and finding a babysitter. I just ignored it, and I thought I might get in trouble, but nothing ever happened. The funny thing is that before I had kids, I always wanted to be called in.
