Hospitals and children....

So a couple of weeks ago, I took my oldest daughter to the ER because she had pain in her side and a fever of 105.2. They basically told me that it's probably a virus, gave her some IV fluids, took some urine and blood and sent her home. I was also told if it got worse, to bring her back in.
The next morning, she is barely able to hold herself up because of the pain and I immediately rushed her back to the ER. They did a CT scan and found a "mass" on her kidney and fly her to the nearest city Childrens Hospital.
Now, I live in a small town. There aren't many people that even like to visit this ER, they would rather travel 45 minutes to the nearest 2* hospital in the next town for an emergency and now I know why.
Apparently, this hospital didn't take the correct samples or do the correct testing on the urine and blood, but just gave my daughter IV antibiotics. They weren't able to isolate exactly what bacteria was causing the infection because of this.
I guess in this rant, I'm just wondering how often this happens in small towns. It's pretty crazy and we may not have had to spend so much time in the hospital had they done the correct testing.
My daughter did end up having surgery to drain the infection from her kidney and she's doing wonderfully now. She just can't act like a normal 6 year old with the jumping and running part for a few more weeks.
Sorry for the rant... just curious how often this happens, I guess...

Wow that is awful and I'm so sorry you and your daughter had that experience! I haven't had an issue like that personally but I know others who have.
The only issue I had in a smaller town's hospital was when they thought I was faking being in labor! They tried to make me prove I was actually pregnant by giving a urine sample. I almost had my daughter in the toilet!! My husband threw a big enough fit for them to finally take me back to L&D where they realized I was 10cm dilated and she was coming out!
