Here is something I dont understand how can a man get in trouble for downloading a old video game off the internet and get more time in jail the a rapist or child molester. I do understand copy wright but if the game is not in store circulation and not selling why does it matter. If someone else puts the game on the net why is it illegal or is it illegal. Plus should someone get more time in jail for this then the other crimes

@Asylum As you correctly thought, it depends on the seriousness. This is an excerpt of an article I found online, about British Law.
The penalties for copyright offences depend on seriousness, but at the higher end of the scale it can lead to an appearance before a magistrate where the sanction for distributing unauthorised files is a fine of up to £5,000 or six months' imprisonment. The worst cases may be sent to the Crown Court, which has the power to impose an unlimited fine and up to 10 years' imprisonment.

@bigshow9773 With those figures involved it must be a case of someone doing so on a large scale and operating it as a business.

@bigshow9773 In the country where I live, if you download for your personal use it's not a crime. If you do as @Asylum says it is a serious crime.

i do agree they should not be getting more jail time than the other two-but the fact remains a game old or not is someone's product.unless they release the licence as abandonware it's still covered by pirating laws.
