I want so badly to bring my pet lemon tree into the house but ...

My wife thinks there might be a live mouse burrowed underneath the dirt in that pot where my lemon tree grows, out on the front porch. Well, I will have to make a strategic decision ASAP. Because the weather is turning downward at night and I fear that if I don't act soon, that 12 year old lemon tree of mine will croak out on the porch, and I have to really be able to convince my wife that THERE IS NO CREATURE living inside that pot of dirt.
Then I will have to also convince her that I need to place that lemon tree in the kitchen at the window door because it faces south and gives lots of sunlight.

Can't you remove the tree to show her then replant the tree?

I need to actually not transplant it because it might shock the plant. The pot it is already in is doing well to keep it growing well and all I have to do is act fast with this. Just let her know that I will make sure first before I bring it in the house. I have to be polite about it so she won't think I am bringing in an unwanted furry thing with it.

My brother brought in a plant in a large pot from outside a few years ago at his house, not ours, and his friend saw a little mouse digging a hole in it and it was digging its way out, not in and he picked up the thing by the tail and tossed it over the neighbor's fence. I imagine that cat next door had a free meal. LOL

@lookatdesktop hahaha I would also think like your wife if I had heard about your brother's case. The cat must have had a meaty day

I bring in my lemon tree and the tangerine tree. That is nonsense about a rat, bring in the tree, she will stop nagging shortly.
EDIT: Tell her they go deep in the ground to stay warm, not in a pot that will freeze.
