Would you make it a point to lock the main door?

We all want to be secure in our homes, therefore, generally we lock main door of our house when we are inside. Sometimes, due to one reason or the other the main door remains ajar and there remains possibility of anyone entering the house uninvited. I always make it a point to close the main door so as to avoid entry of any intruder. Do you always take care to close the main door, when you are inside your home or sometimes you forget to lock it? Is the security in your area such that you could afford to keep your main door unlock? Image courtesy - Google

Yes, we always lock the main door. The one by the garage is the one always open and where we enter from the gate. The garage is where our 3 dogs while their time away. But when we open the gate two of them would always sneak and go out but will be knocking on the gate when it rains already.

It means that garage door remains open and that is your entry point. Understandably, your three dogs act as your security and no outsider could dare to enter your home.

@TiarasOceanView Yeah, it is for the benefit of intruder also that s/he does not step into your house uninvited and face you, else he might find himself on the mat.

We do. It's a habit we got into after an incident where a random guy walked into our apartment after us when we got back from grocery shopping and forgot to lock the door... my husband ended up chasing him out of there with a sword. These days it's more about our front door being drafty if it's not locked. I guess they had issues with some of the previous tenants abusing the property, and at one point the guy damaged the door so it doesn't seal tightly unless the deadbolt is locked.

I am sorry to hear that there happened a bad incident and a guy walked into your apartment, when you forgot to lock it. Does your husband keep a working sword or it was just a show piece? I think it would be better to get your front door lock mended as early as possible.

It’s more like an every night’s routine to check if the main door is locked, the gas line in the kitchen is switched off, and switching off the remaining lights and then going off to bed. It is very is important just for the sake of self satisfaction and security. ( Touchwood ) The country I stay in robbery is a rarity.

@Unmaskedsoul - It is wiser on your part that you lock the main door during night, besides switching of all the lights and gas pipe line. No doubt it is important for your security, even if your country is considered safe. Do you lock the main door during day time also?

We lock the front door when we leave the house and are home before dinner. We set the alarms then, too, even though we live in a very safe area.

It is prudent to lock the door when we are outside our home. However, my discussion is about keeping the main door locked when you are inside your home. It is good to know that you live in a safe area, so there is little possibility of anyone intruding your home.

We keep it closed to keep out flies and insects but it isn't locked. We are well away from a road so the likelihood of someone just coming in randomly doesn't worry us.

So far you are the only one who has stated about not keeping the main door locked. It is interesting to know that although you keep your door closed but you do not lock it as such because you are away from main road and normally no one will intrude your house.

It is better to be safe than sorry, so goes the saying. Securing our homes with locks is better than taking any chance because you never know when your odd neighbor is going to intrude your home uninvited.

It is a must here to lock the front door. People constantly knock at our front door, wanting to buy our place. Crazy people! (by locking, we could pretend like we were not inside! No one home, that sort of thing!)
