Hattie McDaniel. (1895-1952) Do you recognize that name?
My favorite movie of all time is "Gone With The Wind" as most of you know by now, because I've mentioned it many times.
Hattie played the part of "Mammy."
I found something interesting today. I wasn't really surprised by what I read but it was something that I had not considered .
Hattie was not invited to the world premiere of "Gone With the Wind" in Atlanta, GA, a racially segregated city.
However, she did become the first African-American to win an Oscar. Good for her!

The great Hattie. Even at the Oscar ceremony, she sat in back but it was amazing that she won and deservedly so. No black performer would win again until Sidney Poitier in the 60s.

Yes, Sidney was a great actor also. He deserved more than one Oscar.

I did recognize her name since I love that movie too. It was a different time in the south before integration.

Yes a different time but there are still racial problems, even today.

Many people probably don't know that she won. She did a fantastic acting performance in that movie.

I am glad she got an Oscar. I love her in Gone With the Wind.
