How The Horse got rich by cleaning his desk

I recently cleaned off my messy desk at home and wound up getting rich because of it. Under all of the random papers, check books, nail trimmers and a fidget spinner, I found a gift card from LL Bean, and other from Walgreens, as well as one from Target. The Target one was used up, but the Walgreens one has $30 on it, and the LL Bean one had $20 on it. I already bought a new shirt from LL Bean. I rarely shop at Walgreens (a drug store), but I'll find an excuse. Do you ever find riches in random places? I can't even remember who gave me these gift cards--probably the parents at the preschool.

I'll have to go and see what they have. There are certain things I can always use.

@TheHorse I remember they had several everyday products, like hair care, bath, a few things for the car. You surely can find something to buy.

@LadyDuck I'm sure I will. It'll be stuff I can't get at the Dollar Tree.

Walgreens is good to stock on toilet paper. They always have a sale going for soda too. No, I cannot misplace money like that, I am not just a lawyer at heart but also an accountant. No way.

@BarBaraPrz I will check my supply. A clean tush is important to me, both in my own life and in the life of my kid clients.

I used to hide an extra $10 in a certain book on the shelf. No one would dare pick it up.

I remember many years ago taking a pair of trousers out of the wardrobe that I had not worn for a while. I felt a wad of banknotes in the back pocket and was excited. When I took the money out it was a bundle of pesetas from an earlier visit to Spain. There was probably around £60 in all, but such a large was in British currency would have been far better.

@TheHorse Keeping currency is always a risk because even if the currency continues the actual banknote issue can expire just as the coins do.

It's nice to find treasures like that! I recently found a couple $5 Target ones in my wallet - I didn't think there was anything on them so good thing I didn't toss 'em!

I hadn't realized you could call a phone number and give that long number on the card to find out how much is still on it.

@TheHorse You can - but I rarely do that. I just give them to the cashier and tell them I don't know if anything is on it - and I have them check it .

@TheHorse let’s hope it is. I always have about $200 in my Wallet. I feel like it’s empty when it’s less than that.

@toniganzon In California, there's always the possibility that someone will bop you on the head and take your money. I like to deposit cash as soon as I can after I get it.

Well done! I just checked my wallet today, and I have $180 in there. I'm trying to figure out where it came from. I hope the $100 bill is real.

Yes, I found a twenty dollar bill one time, in the pocket of one of my old coats. I was flat broke until pay day, then this happened! LOL I love LL Bean, for men's attire. My son-in-law is a policeman and I like to give him gift cards, for a coffee shop. Quite often, they pick up food or coffee, while patrolling around Detroit.

@kobesbuddy Even though I grew up in Chicago, I actually never visited Detroit. I've visited Madison, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, and many other Midwestern cities, but never Detroit!

@TheHorse Christian is on the outskirts of the city now, but even that is a risky place to be driving! My daughter works in a children's pediatrics hospital, right in the middle of Detroit When she drives home after dark, it's pretty scary!
