Canker Sore

Philippines
January 6, 2018 2:54am CST
So today I am experiencing a slight pain under my lip. I thought it is just a wound or something but when I get to check it in the mirror, I saw a white patch on the inside of my lip. This canker sore really bugs me a lot. I used to bite my lips every now and then when it gets dry but now, a little act of it would trigger the pain. Does anyone of you knows any effective remedy to treat a canker sore? I don't even have any idea how did I get this. photo credit: google

Powdered alum or what we Filipinos call " tawas" is a good natural cure, just search why it's beneficial, it shrinks it and prevents it from being bitten over and over. At times I put rock salt directly on top of the sore but I would not recommend it since not everybody can tolerate the pain. Dries it up real fast when it numbs. My suggestions are only from my personal experience since I prefer natural cure and is not a substitute to expert medical advice

@sw8sincere not as much as salt, it also depends on the size of the sore, how infected and your personal tolerance to pain.

@sw8sincere Yes it will hurt a lot.. and the doctor actually said that it's not advisable, but forr some it worked.

You can go the traditional (and very torturous) route and put alum/rock salt on it. Milder version is warm saline gargle. Or you can go see your doc or a pharmacist to get an antiviral gel/ointment that you can put on it. Takes longer to heal, has a funky taste but less painful. ;) Good luck.

I red a post before from a popular doctor that yogurt is a good natural remedy. Worked for me.

@sw8sincere Mine already got better on the first try.. then after one, it's healed. Maybe it also depends on the severity.

I rarely get them, but when I do, I buy over the counter meds at our pharmacy. Feel better soon.

I already tried some home remedy since I prefer not to take meds. Good thing the sore isn't that big anymore. It shrinks a bit. Thank you by the way.

@sw8sincere Honey, now that is good news. When you get salt on them they go through the roof. It is terrible and they hurt so bad.

@Hannihar yes it hurts so bad even if you only have to put a little amount of salt on top of it. That's why I tried to consider what @louievill suggested. I put powdered alum instead.

The canker sores they get cured themselves within a couple of weeks. The reasons for getting canker sores include some fruits like citrus fruits, pine apples, tomatoes can be responsible for causing these sores. deficiency of certain agents like iron, folic acid, zinc, Vit B-12 can also lead to these sores. Some underlying Gastro intestinal diseases can also cause these sores! If teh sores are very painful and more than two weeks old and if you are having fever it is better to consult a physician for the advise! All the best!

They have over the counter medicine for this at most pharmacies. I hope you feel better soon. I usually gargle with salt water when I get anything like it.

Go to a pharmacy. They'll give you something. I had that, too, some years ago. But it doesn't help you when I tell you the name of a medicine sold in a different country.

Do you know that "tawas" powder you can buy in small pastic containers. That is so effective on "paningaw" or canker sores. You just have to endure the a bit pain when you pit it on your affected lips.

Yes that's what I actually did. Glad it helps. Thank you.
