Time of the year for some of us to escape those winter blues and travel somewhere sunny, warm, and more fun than the freezing weather you might be experiencing where you live. Airtravel can get you there in less than a day, you can step on an airplane and arrive just about anywhere around the world. But for some travelers the friendly skies are not so friendly. Although one of the safest forms of travel, surprisingly many are stressed when it comes to flying. From pre-flight jitters to just plain fear of flying in a airplane, flight anxiety affects more than 20 million Americans. So are there any steps we can take to ease our fears? Yes, here are a few suggestions you can try: 1. Pick a seat toward the front of the plane- airplanes are quieter up toward the front and also experiences the least amount of turbulence. 2. Use an app- there is actually one on your smartphone videos to calm you down and talk you through what triggers your flight anxiety. 3. Distract yourself- reading a frivolus magazine might help you cope better. 4. See a therapist- seek out professional help. Therapists can administer a program to you called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy before you fly. Its focus is on changing thought patterns. 5.Focus on where you’re going- focus on the positive, what you plan on doing once you arrive at your location. Hopefully some of these suggestions were helpful. Do you plan on flying anywhere this year? Are you a nervous flyer? Do you use any of these methods to calm yourself or do you have your own routine? I am not a nervous flyer, just for my peace of mind I always subscribed a "travel insurance", just in case of problems. I never feared to fly and we had pretty turbulent international flights during all the past years.

@dgobucks226 For long International flights I always want a corridor seat, at least I can get up and walk a little. 9 Hours sit is a pain, more is a bigger pain.

I fly down to Florida each winter for a week stay. Don't enjoy it but I get a window seat to distract me.

I wish it were easier to pick seats. Usually it seems like that is not an option unless you do a ridiucloua upcharge. Me and my mom took a flight to Florida... her first flight n over 20 years and while we booked the tickets together they had us sitting apart. If this happens to anyone else explain the situation to the customer service people and they will likely try to sort it out for you.

Sometimes I have seen that happen to people too. Many times flights are overbooked which I think contributes to that problem. Airlines charge so much for the extras like seats and luggage before you know it the price of a ticket skyrockets!

I do plan to fly again somewhere this year but I don't get nervous flying and I usually fly with someone. so there's always someone who entertains me during my long flights.
