New Year: budgeting after the robberies.

Last year was a terrible year for me as money goes. I was robbed twice and I had to spend a lot of money in making my house a safer place.
I now have ADT alarm which means money every month and had to pay to make my fences higher and to place sensors with lights at night.
Besides that, I had to buy twice a laptop, another cellphone and a new smart TV. That is much more than a year of normal expenses at home not counting the money that was stolen and all my jewels.
This year I will do some math to save a little each month to fill that hole. Normally I know how much to spend but this year I´ll have to say no to some expenses.
How do you visualize 2018 as money goes?

The only way I can see money coming is by spending less. I´m retired so my monthly income is the same each month.

@LadyDuck I hope you do. It is not easy though. I was talking today with my aunt about money and it dawned on me that both of my children earn about 20 times as my retirement money.

It will be the same as last year money wise. We usually don't have enough food to last us the month no matter how we buy. No extra expenses and it seems every cent goes to pay bills or feed us. Nothing new this year.

@celticeagle How do you do without food? I try to buy not so expensive food so it can last until the end of the month.

I am really shocked that you got two robberies happen in your house last year. You have done well to add an alarm and sensors which come on in the night. This year I had an expensive trip in February and am now saving up money for home plans. I will be having decorators in next week and a new front door the week after that. I need to save money for an April 2019 holiday that is also turning out expensive.

It is so easy to spend money and so hard to save! I am saving by buying only the list of groceries. But I will not save on vacations if I can have them.

Yeah that was a terrible year. Glad we haven't have experience with robbers. You now need to be more careful. Hope more money to come this year than expenses

I don´t have insurance and will not get any. The amount to pay is more than what I have.

@marguicha anti-theft insurances are expensive. I hope the new alarm will keep thieves away

Wish to save a lot of money to build a new house.
I'm sorry about the robbery. It's terrible to have experienced that. In this home of ours that we live in now, we have never experienced such. I hope it doesn't happen in the new place we plan to build our home. We do plan to hire a security guard when we transfer there.

In general I can but you can never predict unexpected financial costs like medical or dental work.

My problem is that I already have too many medical expenses since my lymphoma problem began.

That is a tough place to start a new year out.
I have a ballpark of some big expenses that I will have this year, but it probably wont be much different than the past year.

For me, last year was like buying the more expensive things in my house again and was not planning to do that at all.
