What is your generation called?

Maybe it is only in the US that someone many years ago started naming the generations. The names, here, at least, seem to be based upon what that generation did as adults. The "Greatest Generation," born between 1910 and 1924 maybe well-named. They fought (with the help of many allies) World War II and saved the western world from totalitarianism. Take the "Lost Generation," a term coined by writer Gertrude Stein that came to describe the "post World War I Generation. Hemingway wrote of it in his novels. I started looking into this because I wondered what my generation was called. Baby Boomers were born generally between 1946 and 1964. Prior to that, including me, is the "Silent Generation. Personally, I was never "silent" and have paid my share of dues because of that. The Baby Boomer generation is the largest and most written about, even as they retire. Then came something called "Gen X, 1964-1979, "Xennials," (new to me!) , 1975 to 1985, "Milennials" include my daughter, 1980 to 1994. "Generation Z, or iGen," are those between 1995 and 2012 and the latest group is called "Generation Alpha." Are these or other generational names used where you live? What generation do you belong to?

We are both 'BabyBoomers' but the more recent generation has been labeled and the 'ME-MYSELF&I Generation.' It's obvious that some people don't care about anyone else, except for themselves.

I'm of the same generation as you but have never been referred to as anything specific, certainly not the 'silent' generation.

In our retirement community, the generation which is just a little older than the Baby Boomers is called the Nifty 50s, because they were teens or young adults in the 1950s. I like that name!

@db20747 actually it's the babies born during that time called the baby boomers (there were so many). Their parents were the generation before.

The Silent Generation. Proud of it too. I got in on the ground floor on music and so much more. It was a great time to be born. It was 1951.

Yep, I am another booming baby growing up I was a frustrated child. Born in 1957 I missed having a HappyDays or Grease kind of life and growing up in the 1960s I missed the hippie generations, flower child stuff and of course Woodstock. That put me in the 1970s and I was glad I got to enjoy having David Cassidy as a teen idol.

I was too young for the Beatniks, but felt a part, a bit too old for the hippies, but had fairly long hair and a very red beard after I got out of the army.

I barely fall into the Baby Boomers being at the tail end of that. I hate that they have decided to start naming generations before those generations even show us what they are about. Generation Alpha?? Really, what the devil have the 2012 births done, they're kids for heaven's sake, lol.

I think what you have listed as "Generation X" is really called Generation Z. There aren't 2 Generation X's. As for me, I'm one of the Generation X/Xennials.

Naming gens isn't bad, but generation X is not my favorite. Sounds rebellious and could also mean unknown. It should be generation sparkle or something or gen. change!! But not X!!!!
