Time for Xenial Xerus

This rather bizarre sounding name is the title given to the latest release of Ubuntu operating system. Each new version has been given a name along with the version release number. Having recently formatted my desktop computer and reinstalled Windows and additional software, I decided it was time to clean up my laptop as well. It is a while since I last used Ubuntu and decided to try the latest version in order to see how it has changed. I was running Ubuntu on the laptop when Microsoft offered the free upgrades to Windows 10, so I reverted back to the original copy of Windows 7 in order to upgrade, but never got around to changing it back.

At first I thought it was a medicine or some kind of Ancient Greek hero movie, wonder why they have to make the name so difficult

They have done this with every new version so far. A few times they have used animal names that I did not previously know.

@louievill They depend on the name Ubuntu instead of individual versions. People will remember the current one as Ubuntu 16.

That is an odd name I assume the X's are pronounced as Z's.

Very few people will have heard of Xenial Xerus, apart from the people who are currently using it. The title Ubuntu is certainly well known as an operating system.

Canonical, which is the company that develops Ubuntu, have a real passion for absurd codenames.
