Do long-forgotten childhood memories ever come back to you in a flash?

It happens to me now and again. I was in the bathroom this morning, when I suddenly remembered a time my mom had a female guest over. They were in the living room, near the fireplace. I must have been about 4-years-old. I wanted some attention, so I adjusted the fire place screen. My mom said something about me "showing off" my abilities but didn't ask me to sit next to and join in the conversation. I was disappointed and left the room. That's all I remember. Does that kind of thing ever happen to you?

Memory flashbacks occur more and more frequently as I get older.

It's funny that I can remember things back to when I was 2 1/2. But only now and then.

I find it interesting that many of mine revolve around a misunderstanding that occurred when I was very young.

@TheHorse There something I remember, but I was not a kid, I was 17. My boyfriend went to visit, he was sitting in my parents living room, I approached and sit on his knee. My Mom gave me "the look" and a chair. I did something wrong I suppose.

It happens for now and then. But why would that come in your life now?

@celticeagle It's strange that many of my memories are around times that the "grown-ups" misunderstood what I was trying to say or do. Maybe certain things are unresolved, and remain in memory, awaiting resolution.

Yes - and why do these things always happen in the bathroom (happens to me in the shower or while brushing my teeth - sometimes even while on the toilet ).

@TheHorse I forgot music but that's very true. Lots of marches bring back memories of when we played them in our brass band.

I remember eating the best banana pudding at our favorite restaurant with my late grandfather. I was about 5 years old. It makes me smile every time I remember that moment.

Yeah, happens all the time to me. Today i was visiting my grandparents and during a talk i remembered a neighbor there who always misspelled the names of the other neighbors. My grandparents never noticed that on this lady and when i told them they were all smiling remembering her.

I remember being dressed in a cavalry uniform when I was about 4 or 5 and even recall the part of the street where I was, but cannot remember why or who else was there.

@TheHorse Of course. This happens when certain events trigger memories. Christmas comes but once a year, why should you think of Christmas in Italy during the rest of the year? Btw, the witch is called Befana.

Yes, I have some very vivid memories of my childhood, in bits and pieces. I remember way back, when I was only about 2 1/2 years old, breaking the buds off our mother's flowers. It just sticks in my mind, from that far back.
