Headphones On My Head

January 11, 2018 3:38am CST
I was once asked by my professor why I am always wearing a headphone. I answered her by saying that I dont want to hear my classmate's chattering. She frowned at me and she told me that I am forgetting to listen to the world. She also added that listening to music is just a temporary solution. And that I need to listen to the sound of the world for me to know the truth. Do you think she's right?

Actually, my classmates are a bit talkative. So I always keep my headphones on.

I think listening to music is a good thing and I feel she is not right. If your classmates chatter all the time how are you going to hear the professor speak.

Music helps me focus more. What she's saying might actually correct. Or not. But I learned from her. I actually learned how to listen to the world.

she does have a bit of truth in that. Doesn't it also hurt your ears if you wear it 24/7? You don't wear it 24/7 though right?

NO! She is so wrong! You're not forgetting to listen to the world. You are not under any obligation to listen to "noise" when you're trying to concentrate on something that's important to you! The truth is ... you don't really need your headphones. I can look right at people, turn on music in my brain, and block them right out. What would your teacher have said to me? She wouldn't have even known I was blocking out the chattering. I didn't have on headphones.

partially right. but if your in the classroom trying to concentrate on your studies, then i can understand not wanting to be distracted. do you have the music on or off? makes more sense if its off .

Whenever I review a lesson, I have to listen to music. It makes me memorize or understand the lesson.

@Krischun13 - just keep it low, if those around you can hear it, then its disrespectful to them and especially the teacher.

I think both of you are right, in a way. If music helps you study better, then good. If music disturbs fellow classmates, then bad. See?
