A lucky accident

The day we had bad weather and school was cancelled a friend in a nearby town went out to help her daughter with something. When she returned home, my friend slipped in her own driveway and hit her head really hard. She went for a CAT scan. The first CAT scan looked to show an aneurysm. It turns out that it is not an aneurysm but is instead a tumor. It is a type called a meningioma. It is small. I am going to have to read up about it so I know more. Meanwhile, if she had not fallen, she would not have found out about this so soon. Four years ago she lost her husband, her high school sweetheart, to cancer. She just remarried in November. I hope and pray that all goes well with her, and I feel lucky that she did have this accident.

I have heard of people who had a cat scan due to a fall and the doctors discovered more serious illness. The meningioma is curable, it it's small I am sure she is curable and the chances it will not come back are more than 80%.

I hope so. I had not researched it yet. She says she is afraid to read about it. She has a good doctor.

@GardenGerty She is right not to read about it and trust her doctor.

@LadyDuck Right now they are not even treating it.

Our sister-in-law's multiple myaloma was only diagnosed through her falling off a ladder and needing scans, etc. It was caught early and hopefully they will be able to control it for some time.

It is amazing how something that is bad can turn out good.

@GardenGerty It was very, very fortunate in her case. There is no cure for this type of cancer but they can hold it in remission for quite some time apparently if all goes well.

That is awful news for her. Hopefully they have caught it early and she can be treated to rid it from her body.

She will know more this week and will have an MRI. It is wonderful that they caught it in time. She is not slowing down a bit from this blow to the head, she and her new hubby were out driving around taking pictures today.

If attitude can heal she will be well in no time. Also she has a lot of caring people around her supporting her in many ways.

She has been told it is growing very slowly and nothing to worry about at this time. She and her new husband just finished a trip across country to the West coast, using no interstates, just back roads.

What I understand is that it is usually successfully treated.

Maybe it was her first husband looking out for her... couldn't get her attention any other way than tripping her. There are all sorts of stories of people's pets alerting them to cancer, so why not a ghost?

It is a good thing that they discovered it. When I was in the hospital for one issue two years ago, by chance they found something else, which I am now being treated for.
