Week One Down.... Three to Go

January 15, 2018 2:19pm CST
I started my sugar detox last week. I've successfully completed 7 days. My biggest fear was my coffee.... I've adjusted. Do I LOVE my coffee without something sweet in it? No. I'm not going to lie. It tastes better when it is flavored and sweet.... But it is drinkable. I'm not doing anything hard core like the Whole 30 or Keto or any of those other trendy things you hear about. I've just cut out added sugar. I've cut out sweets. I'm reading labels & watching portions. And guess what? Without feeling hungry at all last week, I lost 3.5 pounds. I still have a long way to go.... Lots of weight to lose.... I'd be happy to lose about 20 more pounds. I probably need to lose about 30-ish. But I'd be satisfied at 20. Will I make it? Will I keep feeling positive about this change? My plan is to make it 30 days sugar free, then go to more of a plan of Monday through Friday, no sugar. Weekends, allow myself to treat myself.... Or maybe Sunday through Thursday no sugar.... I enjoy having wine on Fridays.... So we'll see. I'm still ruminating. But feeling overall positively about the change.

Sounds like you're doing great. I know I consume more sugar than I should. It really is addicting.

@jillybean1222 How about with your kids and husband around? If they still have sugar, is that tempting for you?

@1creekgirl i told them that i wouldn't be buying or making any dessert for a month. i said that i don't care if they have sugar elsewhere, but i'm not making any point to have it in the house. granted, they are still having things like cocoa and today they had some yummy sweet cereal that i would have liked.... but yeah, they are supportive

Coffee with sugar just tastes of sugar. At least you should be able to taste the coffee now. Good luck with the weight loss. Don't be too impatient. It will happen if you stick to a sensible plan.

I normally just drink lattes, so espresso and milk with just a little vanilla syrup. I drink them very strong so that i do taste the coffee.... I don't usually put sugar in my coffee, just a little something sweet....

@jillybean1222 Anything sweet in coffee just ruins it for me. I don't have a massively sweet tooth though.

Is it only sugar you do without?

Yes, I'm still allowing myself fruit & just limiting portions on carbs. So I'm eating healthy.

I was amazed at how easily I was able to drop a few pounds when I gave up drinking soda, which used to be a major vice of mine. Many people don't realize how much sugar we consume on a daily basis, and how much it contributes to our weight issues!

When I did this and went back to sugar and everything was SO sweet that I did not need or want as much anymore. Way to go! Losing weight is hard.

That's really a great goal that you're realized. I'm on a diet, I've basically started eating fresh fruit everyday, several times a day, and also I have about 1/4 cup of soup everyday for lunch. And the weight is falling off of me as well.

If you can get through 30 days you might have adjusted to having less sugar overall which would make it easier.
