Why Does Food Make Me Sleepy?

Food is supposed to give us energy, like fuel for our bodies. Why do I feel sleepy after eating a meal? This is something I have tried to make sense of for a while, it seems like a contradiction.

Your body uses energy to digest the food so you feel sleepy after eating a meal.

May be you have more of fatty or oily foods. Sometimes those foods do cause lethargy. Or try having some warm water 10 minutes after meal

I would sleep so that the digestion would go as planned. The brain focuses on digestion, which is I don't mind.

@allen0187 is right, it is perfectly normal to feel a bit sleepy after a meal, due to the digestive process. If you feel too sleepy, it means that you consume too much sugary food.

Food in general is fuel. However not all foods are healthy and some tend to make people tired because the body is fighting to digest it. It also matters how much too

We use our energy to digest the food.

I don't feel sleepy after eating. I really don't know the reason for you. You haven't digested the food so it's not yet giving you energy.
