Trying to lose weight is not so much about what you eat but when you eat it. It's true that what you eat is important like eliminating junk food, fast food and foods high in salts and sugars. The important thing is WHEN you eat. Since it takes 3-5 hours for your body to 'digest' food, it's not a good idea to 'indulge'; especially in the late hours of the evening. According to research, food should be consumed between the hours of 8 am to 4 pm. That allows for that 3-5 window of time for the body to break down the food before heading to bed. Not only will you lose weight faster but it is better for the blood pressure and insulin levels.
Time-restricted feeding, or TRF, is an increasingly studied diet that researchers believe may be a tool for weight-loss, diabetes prevention and even longevity.

In Europe we all eat dinner from around 7:30 PM, there are not many obese people in Europe. It's what you eat, not when you eat. A light dinner does not take 3 to 5 hours, no more than 2.

It doesn't surprise me they want 5 hours to digest dinner over here in America! The idea of eating healthy so its not a 5 hour battle of the belly is to hard to do!

@nanette64 If metabolism is slow it is surely a problem, but even in Europe after dinner people do not exercise or go out to run, we usually sit to watch the TV after dinner.

I eat right before bed and I have had no problem losing weight that way. Then agaon what I eat before bed is a salad packed with veggies.

Interesting study. I guess I am in trouble since I snack while watching TV after dinnertime. It is probably not healthy to eat right before going to bed. Since you are just laying there calories are not being efficiently burned

Although I only read the first part of "The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet", it did say to take an hour to have your dinner, no matter what you want. But just to have a small low carb breakfast and lunch.

And a lot of people don't realize that 'wolfing' their food down makes them consume more food. It takes the brain 1/2 hour to realize that the stomach has food in it, so in that 1/2 hour, people can eat a lot more than is necessary @Spontaneo .
