My last post was about one of the attractions of the Fitzgerald River National Park near Hopetoun in south-east Western Australia. Just before you get to Quoin Head there is a sea-eagle’s nest situated on a rocky promontory. Although it is a long way off, you can see it on the outcrop on the left of the photo. While not positive, I think the nest belongs to a white-breasted or white-bellied sea-eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster), a species which extends from India and Sri Lanka through Southeast Asia to all coastal regions of Australia. They have a massive wingspan of up to 2.2 metres and a powerful, hooked beak. The head, neck and underparts are mostly snowy white while the back wings and tail are almost black. The tail is wedge-shaped with a broad white tip. My research revealed that the nests can be up to four metres high which ties in with the photo. The breeding season is between May and October. Two eggs are laid but usually the first to hatch gets most of the food and the second rarely survives.
A week or two ago we visited Ravensthorpe in south-east Western Australia. We lived there for a few years when we were first married and actually followed a...

@DianneN I decided to do a new post. I like the photo here as it shows the nest in the context of the environment.

I found a better photo. Maybe I'll edit the whole post and put the better photo in.

I'm not sure where in the photo the nest is but the photo is gorgeous! Looks like it would be a popular spot for rock climbers.

I've tried to put a circle round it. We'll see if it works. The nest is the bit on the left.

I thought perhaps I'd got the wingspan wrong but it's correct. It is certainly large.

I just looked up images for the white-bellied sea-eagle and it's beautiful. Gorgeous picture of the nested area.

If you look at @shaggin's comment you'll pick up the nest better then you'll be able to find it in the photo. I can't believe Vince's mate climbed out there and looked in it.
