Morning Confusion

They say that when you're about to die, your whole life flashes before your eyes. The same thing happens when you're making coffee at 5am.
And it flashes in waves of good and bad. Of course, even the good images are heartbreaking because, well, they're over - and also because people from the past are often no longer alive. And the bad times were just bad. If one had full disclosure at the beginning, would it all look so tempting? So, I think, this is what Hamlet had to contend with. What we know and what we don't know are both a bit off-putting.
Still, the coffee did eventually brew and with a cup in hand, I merrily greeted Friday in song only to be told that it is Thursday.
Still tuneful, I warbled "We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun" only to stop mid-warble and exclaim "Who ARE these people?" I certainly wasn't one of them.
It's age, I think. There's much more behind than ahead. And who knows what's ahead? Oh yeah, I just flashed back to those years I worked in a nursing home. That's what is ahead. And then, there's what is behind. Take off the rosy glasses and some of the glow of yesteryear fades. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. On the other hand, it can't get any worse.
But the coffee is done and I have downed a cup of the warm, dark brew, I can write out my morning confusion and go on with the day.

You must be a very deep thinker. I usually have thoughts like this while I am taking a shower. For watching my own grandmother go through having alzheimers for 10 years and working in a nursing home for 2 years I do not look forward to old age at all. I do not even want to not be able to take care of myself and live in a nursing home.

Morningtime, pre-coffee; when everything is deeply philosophical and riddled with nostalgia and melancholy

"Think of me and I'll be there"....
Well, I hope you enjoy your freshly brewed coffee. I am sleepy now. Take care.

Good morning over there even though it's 8 in the evening over here. I hope you had a good coffee. I forgot to have coffee until late afternoon.

I'm glad to say my life doesn't flash before me when I make coffee at 5am. I'm not sure how I'd cope with that.
