Is It Wrong To Be Selfish Once In a While?

I rarely buy anything for myself. Maybe once a year after tax refunds I get something I want, but most of the time I'm either buying for one of my kids, giving them money or paying bills. Mostly, paying bills.
Yesterday we went to the grocery store. I did buy a cake mix and the rest of the items needed to make my birthday cake for tomorrow. We looked at the foil pans and they were really expensive, so I went to where they have the real pans and picked up two at the same price. No, I didn't really need them, but I wanted them and they will pay for themselves, eventually.
I want a blender, a good one. It's the doling out of money for something I want that keeps me from getting things I want.
My oldest daughter says I don't buy myself things enough. Maybe it's time to start.

Look at it this way. It's not selfish not to be selfless. We can't leave our own care and pleasure totally in the hands of others. We need to take responsibility for our own care, and if that means doing something for ourselves now and then, so be it!

I'm trying to do more for me. I need to splurge on me for a change.

I don't think it's being selfish, especially since you say you rarely buy anything for yourself. Some people buy gobs of completely unnecessary things and don't take care of their family's necessities . . . now that is selfish. The pans and blender are practical items too - they're well worth the money as you will get good use out of them .
