Is Netflix really still worth it at $11 per month?

January 25, 2018 12:57pm CST
Netflix has been growing its selection of original series over the years. But at the same time, the overall catalog has been shrinking. Since 2014, the website's offerings have decreased by 32%. Now, there's a total of 5,532 movies and TV shows available, down from the 8,103 that made up the catalog in January of 2014. It's not obvious why the catalog cuts were made. It could be that Netflix merely cut the most unpopular titles in order to save money, or that renewal prices weren't practical enough for Netflix to continue streaming those titles. Regardless, this has some users wondering: Is Netflix worth the subscription costs? I’m curious about is whether a Netflix price hike has ever convinced anyone here to cancel their Netflix subscription, or at least second-guess it? Or are there other reasons that make you question your Netflix loyalty, like the loss of a cherished sitcom or a disappointing original show?

I pay £9 per month in the UK for a Netflix subscription that allows 4 different users simultaneously. The Netflix original content is really good and that is what I watch mostly. I think it's brilliant value.

It's not a horrible price, personally. One thing I would like is to have a little more of the same selection on the Canadian version as they have on the US one, but that's just me. There's still quite a bit of selection either way.

Lots of the programming got removed because the owner of them is putting them on thier own streaming service/app.which is why netflix is doing a lot of original content.

I used to like their old selections instead. I remembered not only did they offer online streaming videos but also they had almost all kinds of videos. They probably were DVD's but still, they had available like old films that I used to watch as a younger kid that used to be on VHS. Now though when I figured they took away all DVD's option because they were gonna more videos available for streaming, I realized not all videos were available anymore. That was a bummer for me.

I enjoy Netflix and so far find it worth the monthly fee. However if it goes much higher I'd have to reconsider

every month they take a bunch of shows and movies off, and add new ones. We have Netflix and think its worth it for the original shows they do, like fullerhouse, the ranch, etc. plus we like lots of shows and movies so its good to have all the options.

I've had netflix for years, I didn't notice the price change... it's always been $8/month for a single screen... adding a 2nd screen raises it to $11.. I'm not sure if the 2nd screen has always been $11... I just know they've recently started hardcore enforcing people only being able to watch one screen at a time unless they pay up for 2. Netflix is convenient for guys like me who didn't bother with buying cable. But most of the movies and shows on netflix are piss poor. Still beats not having to sit through commercials when watching them.

I think it is, I dont have cable nor do I care to so Netlfix is pretty much my cable box. I already pay 70 dollars for super fast internet so an xtra 11 dollars where I can find all my favorite tv shows, documentary and movies is no big deal and worth it to me

$11 a month is not high. It's worth it I think but it depends on how often you use it.
