Do You Use Your Medical Insurance?

Now that it is manditory to have Medical insurance, or get fined, I wonder how many people actually use it. It is crazy how expensive it is to have especially for Retired or disabled on Medicare unless you fall in a lower category financially. But what amazes me, and even those who have Medical issues that need a Drs care, how many never go to their Doctor. I know I miss the days when it was easier to see someone, but with my being Diabetic, etc. I make sure and get in to see someone as often as I can. It makes no sense, unless you are Healthy to have to pay over $300 a month out of your pocket for Medical to never go and see a Dr unless you have a Fall or get really sick or need surgery. What ever happened to preventive medicine or if you are Diabetic, etc keeping checked on to make sure that everything is still good. I've been without Medications due to lack of insurance and had Extremely high Blood sugars, but hear of those with decent insurance having the same issues all because they don't want to do anything about it. My thoughts if you have insurance, don't be afraid to get to a Doctor and use it. It will be much cheaper then than if something major happens and you end up in the hospital etc, and have some high bills to deal with then. ~~TINA~~

It is mandatory to have Medical Insurance for many, many years in this country. Of course I use it, we do not pay when we go to see the doctor, the invoice is sent to our insurance. Same for medications.

@KrauseHome The service of course is not free, you pay a monthly fee every month for the medical coverage.

I used it solely for my glasses. But even then it only shoulders 200 bucks per year. I spend nearly 400 as out of pocket because my glasses had to be multifocal, and I went for transition for convenience. I am questioning whether its worth it. Medicare covers nearly everything. But you're right when you said, people should just spend a bit to get a clean bill of health rather than wait till something worse pops up.

Because the early effects of diabetes aren't really noticeable I think many ignore the fact that they need regular checks. However they do so at their peril.

Yes I go to doctors and specialists regularly. I pay enough for it. Why not use it?

The school you work at doesn’t provide you with heath insurance free?

@shaggin used to but part of Chris Christie’s “pension reform” law requires us to pay a percentage of the premium on a sliding scale based on our salary—the more you make, the more you pay.

Only when we have to .. for me it is getting there and co-pays sure aren't cheap. Then it doesn't cover a lot of ours either.

Insurance options are horrible. So many have a huge deductible to pay before their insurance kicks in.. literally thousands of dollars have to be paid first before the insurance will pay any. I have Medicaid so I don’t pay anything but I avoid going to the doctors as much as possible. I know to many people who have free insurance who go to the doctor for every sniffle they or their kids have and if they actually had to pay out of pocket that would change!

I never went to the doctor unless it was necessary. In the last two years, I've seen the doctor more than I want to, because it's necessary.

Yes I do use my med insurance. I think having medical insurance makes me concerned about my health. I mean, I go to the doctor more often now that I have it compared to the time when I don't own one.

Yes, I do have one and I think it is very important to have a medical insurance for your health. Having health insurance is not enough, but choosing the best plan for your health is important. There are also insurance agents available these days who will guide you and help you in getting medical insurance. When my aunt is about to get retire, she got to know this site where she took the help from an insurance agent for getting the best Medicare plan.
