Things That Can Make You Gain Weight

* Since the internal clock helps to regulate things like metabolism, digestion and appetite this may be associated with irregular meals throwing these out of wack and have negative effects on the body.
* Chewing and swallowing takes time and so if you are drinking your calories rather than getting them in whole foods your brain doesn't have the time to process hunger signals.
* Be sure you are not setting for long periods without getting up, moving around or you are using a standing desk at work. Exercise before or after work or during your lunch to keep your energy level up. Fatigue throws the bodies workings out of whack.
* Studies have shown that women who get fewer than 5 hours of sleep each night are more apt to gain weight than those who get 7 or more each night.
* People who eat their meals quickly are more apt to be overweight or obese. The brain needs to have the chewing and swallowing signals to verify that you have eaten.
Your thoughts.

I have two thoughts about weight gain that seem to apply to me:
1. I gain weight simply by looking at decadent food.
2. I seem to defy physics and gain 5 pounds after eating a 1 pound food item.

@celticeagle It must be some kind of disease or eating disorder. I need to check with my doctor and see if he can fix it.
I can never figure out why I can eat a banana and lose weight, but I eat one little tiny cupcake and I have to loosen my belt two notches.

@bunnybon7 its true, for some women. Not all bc makes you gain weight, and not all women gain using. Each body and bc is different.

Stress can make you gain weight, or lose it, it's funny that way.
And, apparentlly, noise can make you gain weight, too, according to a new study conducted at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institute.

I think we are not designed for the food we eat. lol. Or even pollution levels that we create. What will be will be. We would have to exercise more to look the way want to look. That is the only way out. Losing weight in not merely that. It is also about losing in right places. So exercises are mandatory.

You might have some triggers you aren't aware of yet.

@celticeagle It's odd as I don't eat for any reason other than when I'm hungry. But I do like to have something to nibble on when I'm working on the computer, and I haven't had that very often since I started this diet. The most I nibble on is some fruit. I had that too today.

I agree with everything mentioned. All points are valid. It is also worth mentioning that being inactive or suddenly becoming less active, can lead to gaining weight.

All valid points and I agree especially about sitting too long without getting up and moving around. I'm guilty of this.

I am too. I drink quite a bit of water so I have to get up at least every few hours.

Geez, that brain sure gets in the way of a lot of fun eating doesn't it Excellent info. Never knew about the correlation between sleep and weight gain

I agree. I am weird though... When I do my own cooking, I eat slow. When I go to a restaurant, I devour my food in 0.2 seconds. Why do I do this?

@thehousewife Another thing I do? When I am at a restaurant devouring food, I miss my mouth and then either get the food on my clothes or on the floor. Very embarrassing!

I agree! I read there are certain times we should or shouldn't eat certain foods - like nuts shouldn't be eaten to late into the evening. Although nuts are good for us, too much can be fattening - and since it doesn't digest quickly, going to bed with a tummy full of nuts doesn't help with weight loss.

So much to think about! One big thing that will help weight to go away is to avoid processed food. Thanks for the reminder that I need to move around more instead of sitting here just yawning.

Sleep is very important! A lot of studies have been shown that the brain does a cleansing so to speak of fluids and waste in your body. You don't sleep enough, your brain can't kick out the trash... so to speak. So you don't have an effective metabolism nor can you lose weight even when you are doing the good food counting and working out. So it was the first thing I tried to fix after going over things with my dr!
