As you are aware, ships have long been characterised as being female as in "Steady as she goes" or "She's listing to starboard, Captain!" Recently, a group of computer scientists (all male) announced that computers should be referred to as being female. Their reasons for drawing this conclusion are as follows:
Five reasons to believe computers are female:
a.. No one but the Creator understands their internal logic b.. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else. c.. The message "Bad command or file name" is about as informative as, "If you don't know why I'm mad at you, then I'm certainly not going to tell you". d.. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for later retrieval. e.. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
HOWEVER, another group of computer scientists (all female) think that computers should be referred to as male. Their reasons are as follows:
a.. They have a lot of data, but are still clueless. b.. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem. c.. As soon as you commit to one you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have obtained a better model. d.. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on. e.. Big power surges knock them out for the rest of the day.

I agree with you i've never even thought about a computer being a male or female. As long as my computer is working excellent then im fine without knowing a gender for it.

Agreed: Who on Earth would call a computer anything other than "it"?

You must be talking about the French, with their le for male and la for female and everything is like you said it is either a male or a female. In English computers are "it" but there are a few objects that you want to use a male or female gender for, and it mostly have to do with performance or looks, or manly or feminin touch. Other than that any object is "it" is a sleek computer.

The mouse is either male or female:
If it is a roll-ball mouse, it is male.
If it is an optical mouse. it's definetly female: female mice do not have balls.

A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that, in Spanish unlike in English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. A student asked,
''What gender is computer?''
Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked each of them to decide for themselves whether computer should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give 4 reasons for a recommendation.
The men''s group decided that computers should definitely be of the feminine gender (la computer)
because:
No one but their Creator understands their logic.
The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for possible later retrieval.
As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
(No chuckling. This gets better.)
The women''s group concluded that computers should be masculine (el computer)
because:
In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on.
They have a lot of data but still can''t think for themselves.
They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem.
As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer you could have gotten a better model.
Just for fun friends pls post ur views on this topic,
its an "it" but for many languages it is a feminine so you can say its a girl!
