Cover Me: Who did it better?

I love cover songs. I love hearing people's interpretation of music they love and how it can be moved forward by being re-imagined like this. I used to say I didn't like cover bands since they usually tried to sound like the original, but only covers by people trying to make a song their own.
Then I heard this group covering "If You Leave Me Now" , Chicago's first Grammy for record of the year in 1977.

I am very critical when it comes to cover versions of songs. With certain songs it is very difficult to capture the emotion of the original artist or band and often covers fail. But the cover you attached here is excellent. I enjoy watching Morgan James who is one of the best voices of today, in her many cover versions that can be found on youtube.

I can't say that I have a firm and fixed rule about whether or not I'll like a cover. Some do such a complete re-thinking of the song (Elton John's version of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," or Warren Zevon's take on Steve Winwood's "Back in the High Life") that's great, others do the same thing (I love Karen Carpenter's voice, but I never cared for their version of "Ticket to Ride") and it annoys the daylights out of me.
As for Leonid & Friends, Chicago could use that guy a lead singer!
