Flu Shot Issue Among Family

On a personal note, I just wanted to share a situation that happened this week. I had informed everyone that we visited the E.R. earlier this week because my daughter had been battling a cold and had a high fever. The Drs performed all the necessary tests and confirmed she did not have the flu nor any other virus, just a common cold. I then took her to her regular Dr appointment a couple days later. I they looked her over as well and confirmed she just has a cold, nothing serious. I asked the nurse about giving her a flu shot. She said they are running low on supplies. My daughter would need two, the second one a month from now. They will most likely run out by then. It is not worth just giving her one. Also, said that they weren't as effective this year, and flu season is almost over. She is not at high risk since she is not in daycare or any other public places often. So I opted out. I visited my mother who is a family Dr and got a third opinion. She confirmed its a cold, and doesn't really need the flu shot. Keep in mind my mother is very adamant about everyone getting the flu shot. All the while we had been keeping my boyfriends grandmother up to date after she visited my daughter prior to going to the E.R. We assured her many times that she is fine and explained the situation with the flu shots. She still called me panicking saying she thinks my daughter has the flu and we need to rush her to the E.R right away. She continued to argue about the decision of the flu shot as well. She has not seen my daughter all week nor does she have any medical knowledge. Its is just funny that despite 3 professional medical opinions, we are still wrong haha. And to add, my daughter is finally over here cold and back to her happy, hyper self :)

It is amazing what people who are uninformed about science and medicine will think.

It really is. It is okay to be concerned. But at a certain point you need to let it go and trust those who have spent years studying and working in that field of work.

Some just think they're right. Others are just scared and want to take precaution. i get it. I would be scared too. But three people said it was just a cold so im glad they were right.

Very true and it is okay to be worried. Just don't let it get to you too much.

Must be one doozie of a cold... Hope she gets over it soon. I don't understand why she would need a second flu shot, though, if she had gotten one.

For any age the first time you ever get a flu shot you need two, just in case you have a bad reaction to the first, the second acts as an extra boost. At first her cold was off and on with nose issues and congestion then this last week it shifted to fever and upset stomach. I guess it was quite a doozy looking back. Glad its over :)

Haha, I wouldn't think they would give her a flu shot since she already has a cold anyway. Don't you know GRANDMA is always right!

That was another concern of mine too! Plus she had to get her other shots she was sure for that cause minor reactions for a day or two. It just seems all too much for a little person.
