Never again!

Never again, never effing again!
I am beyond ticked off.
Earlier I wrote about how I helped a friend by giving 10 dollars to him so he could get food. Then he comes and talks to me how he only has like 5 packages of ramen left and so I am so confused as to where the heck did the money I sent him go?
I was a jerk, I admit it, I was a jerk to ask but I was also very concerned, how is he starving if I sent him money, so i asked him where did the money go.
He bought food at a gas station, first off...that is so dumb because they are expensive and secondly that wouldn't have taken all 10 dollars! I have bought at a gas station before for food and was able to get a few meals out of it.
But even so, how does someone spend all that money as a gas station? If I was him, I would have bought a meal for that evening even if it was a package of cheap pumpkin seeds (actually...that would be amazing I love pumpkin seeds) and then walked up to an actual store like Walmart or Dollar Tree or whatever the next day and bought actual food.
But his reason why he didn't do that? And I quote, "I didn't want to walk all the way up there just for food."
Are...you....serious? You complain you have no food and yet you don't want to walk to actually get food?
I am physically shaking with anger.
I just never want to give money to someone again unless they desperately need it and I am with them when they spend it. Because I am so pissed off.

you wish you didn't know, but now it's better you did know, so you're prepared next time either to say no, come up with an alibi if you have to, or give him something from your own stash, but not money anymore.
because i have a feeling that if you went with him next time, you'd end up arguing about what and what not to buy because it's obvious you think differently.

Sadly thst happens alot when people ask for money/help.
We're nice to give the help but its up to them to use it right.

Yeah and that is why I am not going to do it again unless I can physically see what the person is doing with the money.

First of all, I am amazed at how much your $10 can buy.
Here that's pretty much 1 meal. Bloody expensive country.
But you're right. Maybe that personality is what puts him in such horrendous financial situation each time.

@DesirousDreamer Oh yes, for sure. You're right. Some people just aren't too smart with money or too lazy.

That is what I heard about there. But here there is so much cheap stuff. Yeah it may not be the healthiest thing but it is enough to survive off of until one can eat a decent meal.

@Theresaaiza I have lived with very little money all my life, I guess he hasn't, I don't know. It isn't that hard to be frugal.

I stop giving money a while ago because kids use it as abusiness of some kind. I notice they ran some sort of gang when ever they are together. So, I just avoid them most of the time. And even if I try to give them, they wouldn't raise their hand as if they expect me not to give. oh, well.

Well that turned into a direction I did not expect. But yeah it is smart to just not give money without knowing where it is going to.

Unfortunately, you never know what the money will be used for when you give it. You also don't know if the person is actually desperate or is pretending to be. There are people that walk in the subways in NYC asking for money and yet they are dressed as if money is not a problem for them..

I knew he wasn't pretending since he always does this with other people. He is really just an idiot.

Here 10 dollars could go along away. You can spend it for a meal for like 2 to 3 days if you're not choosy about food. Maybe next time buy him a food instead of giving money.

I too had a similar experience some time back. When I was waiting for my friend at a bus stop, an old man moderately dressed only asked me to give him Rs.10/= to eat something. But, I gave him only Rs.5/= and sent him away. My friend did not turn up after a long wait also hence I was sitting there only.
In the meanwhile, I saw that old man, who took Rs.5/ from me was passing on the road in front of me fully drunk and wobbling unable to walk steadily.
From that time onwards, I will think twice before parting with my money, whenever such people beg.

Yikes, that is never a good situation. the only time i would give money to someone on the street is if they are performig because in a sense they are still working, they are doing what they can.

His lack of priorities is likely why he was out of food and money in the first place. I would maybe give him food, not money, as he does not manage it well. I have known some like that.

Oh I totally understand how you would feel. What a lazy guy, not wanting to walk to the nearest cheaper store! I guess the next time, if you want to help, just buy the food and give it to him.

If I needed food and someone were gracious enough to give me $10 I would be so grateful I'd walk the 2 miles to the gas station but chances are I would die of a heart attack before I arrived. I would never make it the 15 miles to the grocery store so with how you feel I may as well stay home and just be hungry.

Keeping people money isn't the right solution it only encourage them to come ask for more again. I think if a person looking for food. Then give them food. A little from your storage then replace what you gave away by buying.
But giving money will only make them come back to you.
