I caught my brother smoking again. Oh my gosh! It's a dirty, horrible habit. He promised me he would stop but look, he was at it again. Right there puffing on a cigarette. How do I help him realize that he's ruining his health and fouling the air?

@mydanods is he already an adult or still a minor? My question was who owns the house where he smokes, you, your parents or your brother?

@louievill my parents own the house. He is 25. He keeps saying he'll stop, now this. I feel for him because it's not easy but his smoking gets into my lungs and it chokes the air.

When the decision to quit won't come from him directly, there's nothing you can do about it.

Hmm. That's a hard one. I'm looking for something to do about it. I think he needs deliverance.

He won't leave it unless he won't have a strong will power. Ask him to do and make him realise that smoking is injurious for health.

He is not going to quit smoking unless he himself wants to.

@Hannihar beats me. If there is love, one should be able to control bad habits.

@mydanods That is a good idea to do. Does he realize it is not good for him and then for others around him?

That's just horrible, it would really kill him some day. But let me tell you this, the more you forbid him, the more he hides it and do it in secret.

That's something I have learned today. I'll be patient with him.

hes an adult, nothing you can do for him, its his decision. you can choose to avoid being around him when he smokes or smells like smoke.

He has to make the decision himself. He already knows all that.

Motivate him to stop. If you get angry , that will worsen the situation. This habit can only be quit with self determination.

I`m telling this as a ex-smoker. I know you want the best for your brother but he will never quit only because he promised you. He will quit only when he decides for that.

How do I make him decide as quickly as possible. Please advise me.
