Getting old?

I have often wondered why getting old is really that bad? I am a culprit too, I have always wanted to be in my twenties and I am and I don't ever want to age out of it, but I will. As we age we get wiser through experiences and education. As we age we get closer to our dreams we are working so hard for. Some do not in both cases, but you get the idea. I get tired of people justifying their age, people often say "I'm 55 but most say I look 38 and I don't feel like I am even 50, yadda yadda..." And it's like okay? You're 55. Own it. You don't have to justify it. You don't have to flaunt it. Just know that is where you are at, you knew you would reach this age at some point in your life, and here you are. I think as long as we take care of ourselves mentally, physically, and financially then aging shouldn't be as scary. I think as long as we find happiness in ourselves and in the environment we created or put ourselves in, then we should be okay. Tomorrow isn't even a promise. If we do make it we are all going to get old eventually. Might as well make the best of it. Why not?

Yes like teens that want to be grown. They should just enjoy their time being young and not rush it.

@taciaelisepeace - they are missing the point. the point is to learn from experience, not pretend your experienced.

My 20s were fun in some ways and difficult in others. I suppose the same could be said of my 30s. That's how life is. It isn't ever easy but you just have to do your best and enjoy it as much as you can because no one is guaranteed tomorrow. I thought I'd be really upset when I turned 40 last year but it actually didn't bother me at all. Maybe 41 will get to me in a couple of months.

Very true, I think our problems age with us. When we were 5 our biggest problem was not getting the toy we wanted or something small. At 15 it was about fitting in or school related, or something bigger. At 20 its figuring out life. It just grows with us. 40 still isnt bad to me! I think you really know who you are and what you are doing. And if not you are still young enough to explore and figure things out!

@taciaelisepeace At 40 I know who I am and am very confident in that. I won't let anyone push me around and will speak my mind to anyone. (as seen every day here on myLot) I think it is better to have enough respect for someone to tell them the truth than to kiss their behind and lie to them or make things seem better than they are. Part of that may also have to do with where I live, though, too. Jersey folk aren't usually known for holding back but some are known to "play the game".

@NJChicaa I admire that confidence and not being afraid to hold back. I do speak nicely here as it appears most people do, but it is always the truth. If I do not agree with something I just dont comment at all. Usually haha. But in real life I am pretty blunt, I get that a lot from friends and family. As for knowing who I am. I'm still learning. I am not afraid to try new things. I'm from Colorado though so we are pretty laid back and keep to ourselves.

What a great post, Tacia! As an old fart I can testify that life gets way, way, way better once we've passed the 50-year mark. After that it just keeps getting better with every year.

That's good that you have always been comfortable with your age.
