Band-Aid!

The picture is my right hand and left foot. My thumb and index fingers are covered with Band-Aids. My thumb had a scraped skin because it mysteriously got hurt and I cannot recall why. My index finger was needle-pricked by a student. I assisted her to take the ‘random blood sugar’ of her patient and when I told her to put back the needle in its cover, she moved her hand side-ward, with the needle pointing out. It is just a prick but I have issues with blood-clotting due to Warfarin intake. I will give a failing mark to that student because she was not that competent with the responsibility.
My left middle toe is also with a Band-Aid because the alpha-male wannabee Sydney bit me again 3 nights ago. I do not need to inject myself with Tetanus Anti-Toxin because I had that several months ago, due to Sydney biting me the first time.
Now, I type on desktop with my right middle finger and left index finger. Also, I cannot open the cell phone that my brother gave me because it needs finger-scanning (for security purposes). I still have the other cell phone though.
Do you put Band-Aid over an open wound after cleaning it, or do you just leave it open?

Careful my dear of Sydney because he has bitten you already 2 times. Maybe you shouldn't ever get near him again.
And that irresponsible student deserves a failing mark indeed. As a nurse, one has to be very careful in everything that is being done especially with patients.

@SIMPLYD even with her skills, she deserves a low mark. it was aggravated with her accidental pricking of my finger.

I am sorry to hear that po. But yes, I agree that your student should be more careful. I do not put band-aid po unless I will have to go out.

for me, now that i take coumadin, if the wound is deep and incised, i will have to cover it.
even when my blood is extracted for laboratory tests, the medical technologist should put a thick sterile cotton and place an adhesive tape so the wound won't bleed profusely.

@mlgen1037 i believe the medical technologists know how to dress a pricked wound from insertion of a needle.

Same as @Morleyhunt, it depends on the wound. If it's only a small thing, I do not cover.

i need to cover any wound that i incur because i am in the intermediate medical care unit. the first patient where this student took the random blood sugar specimen was ill of cerebrovascular disease- bleed. the 2nd patient she took has Pseudomonas, and this organism is lethal because it can spread even with just a prick. that was why i placed a plaster over the prick.

yes, leaving the wound open is good, but when the wound gives out too much blood, it is still better to keep it sealed with band-aid.

@ridingbet Oh yes. When the cut is sealed, that's the time you leave it open so that the wound will dry up and heal faster.

the index finger is already healed and the band-aid is removed. my toe still has some blood, and my right thumb is still with the band-aid.

the open air helps in the healing of a wound, unless if it is infected already or pus comes out of it.

Sydney is the alpha=male wannabee. he is a ferocious little pig-dog. pig because he assumes the body of a piglet, and he barks as well.

My kid brother and his daughter are home, and so, their dog, the one that bit me, is also here. Sydney, the Chihuahua is in heat, male version, again. He keeps...

It depends on the wound. I am more likely to cover it to keep from getting blood on everything else, sometimes the bandaid is placed to protect (cushion or keep clean) the wound.

if i don't have issues with bleeding, i would also leave it open. the needle prick is painful and it sometimes gives out much blood especially if the needle is gauge 18. now, for every wound, i keep a band-aid on because i might bleed much.

I bet you are covered a lot with band-aids. Do you carry a box around with you just in case you need them?

No. the 3 band aids are already removed. They were just there for 2 days. And I am not covered with band aids. How would I look like if I am covered with the plastic strips.

@Hannihar well, if the scratches bleed, then i would imagine you pretty covered with band-aid strips.
