The capital, Santa Fe, was founded in 1610, which makes it the oldest continuously used seat of government in North America. It's Spanish Colonial Palace is the oldest government building in the nation. NM is also a center of modern technology: the first atomic bomb was constructed there at Los Alamos and tested at the Trinity site in 1945. NM is the 5th largest state, with the Rio Grande River bisecting north to south. Mining is the largest industry. Visit Carlsbad Caverns, a natural wonder, attracting thousands of tourists every year.
