Here on this Super Bowl Sunday, we find ourselves at #9 in my countdown of my favorite songs with "king" in the title: "Kings of the Wild Frontier" by Adam and the Ants.
Adam and the Ants were formed out of necessity by charismatic front man Adam Ant in 1977, in London, after Sex Pistols founder Malcolm McLaren heisted Adam's backup band away to form Bow Wow Wow. Adam and the Ants, which also featured original Siouxie and the Banshees guitarist Marco Pirroni and drummer/producer Chris Hughes, lasted until 1982, when Adam Ant left to pursue a successful solo career.
"Kings of the Wild Frontier" is the title track of the band's 1980 album, their second. The record was Britain's top selling album in 1981 and won the 1982 Brit Award for Best British Album.
The song was one of four singles from the album, and performed well. It stalled at #48 in the UK, but reached #2 upon re-release.
I've linked to a live performance from what looks like an appearance on the British show Top of the Pops.
Enjoy!

@teamfreak16 I thought that Davy Crockett was the king of the frontier.

Adam Ant was hugely entertaining, though this song makes me think of Davey Crockett

@teamfreak16 I still love it as the lyrics are so dumb and over the top

@arthurchappell - A larger than life folk hero when I was a kid. I wonder if they even learn about him in school here anymore

Yay, Adam and the Ants!!! (Funny aside: there’s a line in an Elton John song that says, “adamant before the fall,” and one lyric placed had it printed as “Adam Ant before the fall.” )
