I didn't give any of my pets last names, but the vet's office did! My cat is Leeroy Smith My Dog is Copper bumpsalot Smith Funny, but I guess it works for the vets office to keep track of say...two cats named fluffy. I dunno

We have an AKA St. Bernard and to be registered she has to have a last name. Her name is Dixie Lou Clark.

Well it's not that people "give" their pets last names. Most pets automatically have their owner's last name. Like for veterinary records and other places you may register your pet, they'll have your pet's name as, for example, Spike Johnson. Or whatever your last name may be. :)

It's very, very odd to give your pets surname... I give them just names, preferably something that I will always use!

'Hi, This could be important to you if you are thinking of being a pet breeder. Of course, they could have YOUR name (all of my pets have, as i am their supposed parent,. . .), but the REAL world of pedigree pets nearly requires that. Some of them are a tad complicated; 'Alysse of Pompifoo, 2nd Duchess of Palermo', for example. We hial her as, 'Aunt Alice'. But if you need any ideas, go to a web page for those fancy breed pedigree societies.' The surname or title differentiates the pet from the cute, but still statistical, 'shelter critter' AND importantly implying that the pet could have a family, too. Whereas most, if not all, shelter specimens are, unfortunately, STERILE. Society does place a LOT of value on the continuation and preservation of the species. So there's even a sort of association of naming, 'cause if Tinkerbell came from the shelter, chances are that she won't be having that litter. FRDemmer'

I have never thought about it but I whould have to say that for paper work I would but for the most part it is not important. I will have to take my kittens to the vet in March to have them fixed and at that point for the paper work I will give them a last name but to me they are and will always be Precious and Alexis.

No I do not give my pets a last name. It usually takes me like a month to give them a name at all.

I never thought about it, but when I took my cat to the vet, when it was his turn they called him by his first name and my last name, so I guess he does have one.

No way, that is a bit sad :D I hate it when people love their pets so much, they treat them like a person.

nope, but since my dog came from a house where they create them, they already come with a last name.
