Surprise!

I am blessed to have had some really great surprises in my life. Unfortunately, the one I got last week wasn't a welcome one. My rent went up forty dollars. I couldn't believe it. The year prior it had gone up, but I didn't expect a forty dollar increase this year. It was a huge disappointment. Currently, I am trying to figure out what to do, but I am sure I will find a way. At least I got a months notice. What was the last surprise you got? Do you like surprises? I do, in general.

That's not the kind of surprise anyone likes. My last surprise happened today. I found out there are two manuscripts missing on my hard drive and I need to manually put them back on. Not fun.

@AmbiePam I found them last night after I went to bed. They're in Drive, now back on my hard drive.

Here in LA, a renter has to expect an automatic yearly 3% increase.

That's interesting. If that were so here, my rent wouldn't have gone up forty dollars. Three percent would have only raised my rent fifteen dollars.

I'm glad you received a months notice to pay the increase. Our new increase was the water bill. My most recent surprise was my daughters new job, so a great surprise, as she has doubled her salary.

Do you mean 40 dollars a month? This is a big increase.

Yes, forty dollars a month. I contacted their office, but they have yet to respond to me. I'm not allowed to come in unless I have an appointment.

I don't call that a surprise so much as a disappointment. I hope that you can rework your numbers, that's quite a jump.

A raise in your rent wasn't a great surprise, that's for sure. I guess my latest good surprise was when a medical procedure I had wasn't as painful as I thought it would be.

I am a little ticked off because the escrow in our mortgage payment went up 14 dollars this year as apposed to last year.

To me, that would be more of a shock than a surprise. I hope you can manage to work something out. Costs seem to be rising in everything. We had our common charges - maintenance fees - go up every year since we've been in the condo.

I got a call back today, and the lady I spoke with told me I would have to get her supervisor to appeal it, which is what I will do. She couldn't explain why it went up so much.

I wouldn't like that kind of surprise, I have never had to pay rent to anyone but would rather buy my own home so I don't have to. Hope you get a better surprise soon

If I could buy my own home, I would. However, I'm on disability, and that's never going to happen as long as I am.
