Attacked by wild horses while on a hike!

A friend and I took a hike yesterday. It was the Wildcat Canyon trail from Richmond CA, up toward the Inspiration Point Trail that I frequent. While on the hike, we met some horses. They were not afraid of us, and I got into a petting fest with one. The other was grazing happily away on the early Spring grass, and I encouraged my friend to take a video on his cell phone. As a horse, the sound of a horse grazing happily away is very satisfying to me. Can you see this video? Does it make you feel relaxed and full? If I can, I'll lead with a picture of me and the horse I was petting.

Nice video of the grazing horse. It makes me wish I was as relaxed as he is.

@just4him Even just hiking in the green hills made me relaxed. But the horses were a special treat.

I did not know horses had such muscles in their jaws, but I guess they are mostly muscle anyway. Look like they should be predators with how big those jaws are. The eyes fit with their personality though.

@TheHorse Yeah, they kind of have people teeth, except bigger.

@crossbones27 Well, we have canine teeth. I eat meat so as not to insult my DNA. Horses' front teeth are designed for grabbing and tearing (grass) and their back teeth are designed for chewing. They DO have powerful jaws.

They just want to find grass and eat it.They have no "canine" teeth.

It sounds weird to some, but I can sit and watch happy horses eat for a long time. I can also scratch them behind the ears for a long time.

@TheHorse They are big, but usually not aggressive, some do not like to see people too close to them. You feel when you should not approach, they can bite.

They really are. Some are afraid of them because they're big.

@sallypup Nah, all of the horses we interacted with had obviously been around humans before.

He came over when I talked to him in Horse language, and we had a little ear scratching moment. He wasn't afraid.

That must have been awesome. The wild horses here on Ocracoke Island in NC won't let you get near them.

Where is the attack...I came to see you being mauled, trampled, kicked, rolled, all that stuff...nothing here...just some horse grazing and another being petted by you.

We recorded this yesterday. The horses were totally unafraid of us. I think I they've had human friends.

Yep, when I'm around anxious people (the singer of this song, for example, our fearless band leader), I get a bit anxious. When I'm around happy horses eating, I get happy and relaxed.
