I'm Not Against "Hunting" Per Se, But I Am Against Trophy Hunting

As I see it if one is a "hunter", that is, one who genuinely hunts and kills animals for food, then I don't have a problem with that, since many cultures still rely on hunting, especially indigenous cultures. I happen to be part Native American and yes, my ancestors were deer hunters, yet ironically I could never envision myself "hunting" especially a beautiful animal like deer. It's the trophy hunters that bother me. This are a different "breed" of people who kill animals for the sake of killing and then often have those animals stuffed and hung as yes, "trophies" to show off. These people go out of their way to hunt animals, not just Deer, but Giraffes, Lions, Tigers, Elephants, etc. and they spend a near neigh fortune for the so-called "privilege" to do so, and not only in places like Africa, but what is known as "canned hunts" ranches. Did you know for instance these ranches exist even in America? Yes I shoot animals, but with a camera, to my mind the only way in many ways to "shoot" an animal. The photo I have here is of a Pudu deer that I took many, many years ago in Discovery Island (now shut down to the public) that was a part of DisneyWorld

I personally think that trophy hunting is the worst kind of hunting, next to poaching. But really it's so hard to draw the line between what is animal cruelty or not. People hate trophy hunting but still eat meat. I don't blame vegans for being vegans, although to me that sounds too extreme in the name of love for animals. I dunno, too many grey areas.

Trophy hunting is different though, it's for the sake of just killing the animal as a trophy rather than killing the animal and eating it also

@pyewacket Yes, as a sport and I don't get that. I don't understand how people get off by killing very rare animals all for the sake of sport. It's a very lavish hobby as well, if I may add.

I would only shoot an animal if I wanted a picture of it OR if I had to feed my family.

I am 100% with you on this. Sadly there are some of those ranches down here in Texas @pyewacket . When I first moved onto my property, I was the only one in the area and I use to have hunters enter my property. My Akita and I use to walk the property line every day. One day there were 2 hunters that had entered my property. I told them they had 60 seconds to leave or they would never be found alive.
