I've seen it happen, yes. What happens is, they stretch out in their sleep, and then fall back asleep in that position without even realizing it.

I've never had a cat that slept like that. Mine (all the four who have, at different times, had me as their servant) have always slept either curled up with their tail over their nose or stretched out on their belly or side like a draught excluder, depending on the temperature.

I never allow my cat to come inside the house.They stay outside .There is no harm in keeping a cat as a pet,but it should not be allowed to come inside the house.

My cats mostly stay together in a group and sleep at the top of each other..
Sometimes they can sleep even when they're sitting.
Cats are really cute..
