Anyone who familiar with East Asian community will know that we have another new year coming.
The year was based on lunar calendar. It was the time all the crops are harvested and people take rest and enjoy their hard work. Modern life nowadays make it much more stressful than it was supposed to be.
It's been fun for the kids. As an adult, I have some major budgeting to do.

I prefer the name "lunar new year". I should not be nut about it though, like we have "French kiss" and "go Dutch".

@Allamanda IN this country people don't know what a lunar new year is, but tell them it's Chinese new year and they'd understand.
When I talk to foreign people, I refer to it as the Lunar New Year as well. That's why in my response I said WE call it Chinese New Year.

Yes, that's the one. Several countries besides China celebrate it too :).
Oh because we also exchange gift and lucky money during this occasion. I find it similar to Christmas and New Year so I didn't explain further. My bad. The celebration is.. very complicated but basically, we eat, drink and wish everyone new year wishes, visit a lot of relatives and people.
And the reason I have to spend money is the people who are older and have higher social status are supposed to give lucky money and younger people will give them gifts in exchange for the money. It could turn into a mind game :P. This year I have to give lucky money to my nephew, my sister and gift my parents. So much pressure for a new graduate like me.

@Allamanda yes, it's always better to provide more details/explanations in the post because we come from countries around the world. that way, others understand the situation you're talking about and give you better answers or suggestions.
if you're a new graduate and don't have a regular job yet, then they shouldn't expect too much.

@hereandthere Thanks for your feedback. I will try to keep that in mind next time.
About the expectation, people always think I'm smart all my life and they assume I will make it big as soon as I go out there in the job market. But the truth is I am not that smart and all the praising and expecting just make me suffocate. Sorry, I make it too personal __"_.

Lunar calendar is based on the movement of the moon and it originated from the way people mainly grow crops to live back then. May I ask how does Saptarishi calendar work and how it come to place?
