Van Music War

We haven't done one of these in many months. My girlfriend and I play a game together that we call "Music War," where we, with wildly different tastes, play music for each other until one of us "wins." This is usually achieved by playing something unexpected, or "out of character," but also sometimes involves a cool personal story. Sometimes these turn into all-nighters. This evening, we were driving when she challenged me, so I pulled the van over and we went to battle. Her sample: "Brian's Song" by Johnny Mathis, "The Way We Were" by Barbara Streisand," "The Star Spangled Banner" by Slash, "Music to Watch Girls By" by Andy Williams, "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong" by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. My sample: "The Sun and the Rainfall" by The Merry Thoughts, "Until Death (Us Do Part)" by Front 242, "Endemoniada" by Fields of the Nephilim, "Driven Like the Snow" by The Sisters of Mercy, "Talk About the Weather" by Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. While she was all over the place tonight (usually my strategy,) she did throw a lot of movie songs into the mix. This time, however, I had a strategy. I bombarded her with a steady dose of goth and industrial. Eventually, I went for the unexpected kill with "The Beat Goes On" by Sonny and Cher. And I was right. She was taken completely by surprise. I don't win many music wars, but I won this one! Thanks, Sonny! Thanks, Cher!
