What are the main virtues a parent (mother and father) should have

Raising a child is not an easy task. There are many things a parent, -mother or father-should care of. So, in Your opinion, what are the priorities, a parent should have for his/her child?. To be more concrete, we are now talking on a child of up to 12 years old.

Parenting has no perfect pre planned pattern. Patience and selfless efforts are the only requirements.

They should know how to lie with a straight face to make their stories of the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and the Tooth Fairy more believable.
