A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Tim Horton's...

I guess it snowed more than I thought it did, when I decided to go out for coffee, last Thursday. Canadians will know that it's that wonderful time of year, the time when Canadians decend on their local Tim Horton's, in order to roll up the rim on their paper cups, in hopes of winning everything from free coffee, to a car, or $5000 on a pre-paid credit card. I am no exception, and what's more I love their coffee. If I didn't love their coffee, I'd be the exception to the rule.
Anyway, on this particular Thursday, I wanted a coffee from Tim Horton's, but needed to find one on a bus stop. I found one on the 99 mainline, a bus that leaves and returns downtown every 10 minutes. The only catch was that the Tim Horton's was about 100 yards away from the bus stop. It was an even sidewalk, and a straight line, so this was no problem for me with my vision and my balance. Unfortunately when I got there, I discovered that the sidewalk hadn't been shoveled all year. I trudged through knee high snow. It only took me about 30 minutes to get there. LOL
When I got there I doscovered an even bigger challenge than the sidewalks. There was a very high porch step, that would be too high for me to climb, and the snow piled up around it, only made it harder. It was the middle of the day, so I decided rather than trudging back to the bus stop, I was just going to stand there till someone else came along, to give me a hand up the step.
About 10 minutes later, a red, white, and blue buss pulled up, and a hockey team disembarked. Turns out it was the Saginaw Spirit, in town to play a game against my local team, the Guelph Storm. I told them my problem, grabbed onto the biggest guy in the crowd, and up I went. We all had a cup of coffee together, and they got on their bus, and went on their way. I decided to spend a bit more time there, and drink more coffee.
Not wanting to trudge back to the bus stop in that snow, I called a cab and asked him to park near the step, so I could use the door as a railing.
A joke in our family is that 25 years ago my mother met my step-father in a Tim Horton's location at 3 AM, after they'd all been out at a Country bar, dancing. I called her that night, and this is how the conversation went.
Me: Hey Mom! Remember that guy you picked up at Tim Horton's, 25 years ago?
Mom (laughing) I remember.
Me: Well, you pick them up one at a time, but today, I went to a Tim Horton's and picked up an entire hockey team!
She laughed her head off, and I told her the rest of the story.
How is the weather where you live, and have you come up with any fun ways of dealing with it?
By the way, I won a free cup of coffee that day, and my husband was very happy when I brought home a big bag of sandwiches, coffee, and donuts for us to have for dinner. Hey, I already knew i was taking a cab home, so why not load up? LOL

Congrats on the free coffee. Did you know that though it says coffee, you can use it to get a free tea or hot chocolate instead?
Anyway, I haven't been to Timmie's yet to try my luck, even though there's one very close to me. One of my friends won a coffee, too.

Better than Starbucks -- the coffee doesn't cost an arm and a leg and the tea tastes like tea, not coffee grinds.
